Professor Taku Demura is Director of NAIST Center for Digital Green-innovation (CDG), which was established on 1st January in 2021. He received his PhD. degree in Plant Biology from Tohoku University in 1995, served an assistant professor in Tohoku University and University of Tokyo, and then moved to RIKEN Plant Science Center as a laboratory head in 2009. He joined NAIST in 2009 as a professor.

Since his PhD study, Professor Demura has been working on plant woody biomass-related science, especially on the molecular mechanisms underlying development of woody cells such as water-conducting vessel cells and body-supporting fiber cells. Through the biomass-related studies, he was attracted to Green-innovation that contributes to construction of sustainable society via carbon neutral, which could be developed significantly with the Digital technology, leading to the establishment of NAIST CDG.
